BY JENNA SCOTT There's a monster under your bed. And he's writing a poem. Got a spooky, scary, skeleton story? How about a terrifying, transfixing tale? A paralyzing, petrifying piece of prose? A nasty narrative? An frightening feature? (I'll stop. I know this isn't very humerus.) If you do, we want you to share it with us! Submissions will open October 1st and run through October 28th on the KIVoice website. Just submit through our GHOSTories submissions page. Two submissions are allowed per person. If requested, the KIVoice team will offer feedback on at least one submission. Winner will be announced October 31st! How We Judge the Piece (We're all transparent here.)

Several students competed in Tuesday's lunchtime Kahoot each lunch period, competing against each other for candy prizes. Even more students participated in the open mic in various performances, from Kyle's take on Bach's Prelude in C to Hannah's poem, "Yearnings". Thursday was Neil Gaiman's Coraline, with a cupcake contest and a rather unexpected cliffhanger. (Will they ever get their sandwiches? You'll just have to read the book to find out.)
BY SAM PAULEY The fifth annual virtual conference SLJTeen Live was a hit, with speakers Maggie Stiefvater (try to pronounce that), author of the Raven Cycle, and Meg Medina, author of Burn Baby Burn. The event is geared towards Librarians and other adults in youth literary services, but with opportunities to chat with representatives from publishing companies such as Scholastic, Penguin Random House, and Harmony Ink as well as excellent panels on topics such as Horror and Sci-fi in fiction, anyone with a love of the literary can enjoy and learn from this event. Stiefvater's opening keynote talk was funny and inspiring. She addressed a wide range of topics, going from query-letter rejection (did you know she sent her first query to an agent at age 16?) to race-car driving (John Green was on fire, but it was definitely not her fault) to goats (her favorite pair of sunglasses in ruins!) while describing her average workday. The event is free to register and any who pre-register have access to videos of all the web-conference talks afterwards. We'll be looking out for news about SLJTeen Live 2017! |
